With their arrangements of songs from the Cantigas de Santa Maria and the Llibre Vermell, oriental sounds, Sephardic romances and original compositions in the Arabo-Andalusian style, JOYOSA are sometimes rousing with pulsating rhythms, sometimes meditative with quiet tones, always true to their claim that "music must come from the heart to go to the heart". Thus, the duo plays through the sound worlds of different cultures. On a variety of historical instruments, Joyosa presents the music of medieval Spain, the Near East and the Celtic lands. Touching songs tell stories of love and wandering, of magic and longing. Traditional Celtic dance music is also part of the repertoire of the two musicians: Rousing andro's and laridees from Brittany; jaunty jigs, reels and hornpipes from Ireland take listeners to the archaic roots of Central European musical culture. The instruments of the folk and medieval duo are versatile: Kilian conjures melodies and sound carpets on Irish harp, key fiddle, lute, oud, various bagpipes and flutes; Flixa adds the rhythm with frame drum, davul and darabuka. JOYOSA feel just as much at home in the world of enchanting songs and melodies for dreaming as they do in the lively rhythms that invite you to dance and party.
The duo has a digital mixing console. If necessary, you can bring your own small sound system.
